What happens when you combine platform heels, transvestites, and lots of pelvic thrusts? Cardinal Rep's reprisal of Rocky Horror Show, that's what!

A show most definitely not for the faint of heart or those with delicate sensibilities, Rocky Horror returns to the Freight Station starting this weekend to sing and dance the night away with an audience of die-hard fans and “Rocky virgins.”

Rocky Horror was a roaring success last year that played to sold out audiences. Fans dressed up and fled to join Brad and Janet on their bizarre night with Dr. Frank-n-Furter and his out-of-this-world cohorts.

“As a fan, I really enjoyed their interpretation of the play last year,” says AASU student Luke Farmer, “and I hope they let their own voice come out again.”

Some exciting new aspects to this year’s Rocky Horror include a few casting changes and making this year’s production in the round.

“Actors will be coming from around and behind, so the audience really gets to be a part of things,” explains Vincent Carubia, who plays Brad Majors. “It brings a great sense of energy to the show.”

The show’s music is also a huge point of excitement. “With the vocals you really have to hit it like a rock star or it’ll fall flat,” muses Christopher Blair, this year’s Dr. Frank-n-furter.

And hit it they do. The subject matter of each number is unique, chock full of innuendo, and is delivered with power and electricity.

One thing that promises to keep the audience captivated is the show’s continuous action and presence of actor’s on stage. Whether it’s Brad swinging from chains from a back wall, or Rocky doing muscle-clenching exercises from a ladder, there is always something to observe and cackle at.

“You really have to have focused,” says Carubia. “It’s so fast-paced, the audience is heckling and trying to get you to step out of character, but you have to keep going and keep the energy up.”

If the nutty storyline and undeniable raunchiness of the show weren’t enough to attract, the fact that several male actors are dancing around stage in heels and not falling should sufficiently pique one’s curiosity and demand attendance. The Time Warp opens October 24 at 8 p.m. at the Freight Station. Don’t be late, or Riff Raff and Magenta will leave without you!
