Dimensions Gallery raises funds for scholarships

One of Savannah’s youngest art galleries is wasting no time in giving back to the community that welcomed them. As part of its first birthday celebration, Dimensions Gallery on MLK Boulevard is kicking off a six-month capitol campaign to raise money to award at least three scholarships to local students at each of the area’s major schools: Savannah College of Art and Design, Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Savannah State University."We specialize in helping emerging artists come up. We show them how to put on shows,” says Amy Adams, gallery marketing director. “Our gallery works with younger people and students, and we want to help them anyway we can. What better way to give back to students than give them scholarships?”

The campaign begins with a one-year anniversary cocktail party this Saturday, June 14, from 7-11 p.m. The event will be held at the gallery, located at 412 MLK Jr., Blvd. Tickets are open to the public and are $20 in advance and $35 at the door.

Eighty percent of the proceeds from the party will go to the planned scholarships. Additional art events will be held over the next several months to raise additional funds.

In its relatively short time downtown, Dimensions has put on some of the most diverse and well-received shows in some time, including the “Hip Hop Heads” photography show last July to last fall’s “Loop, Link, and Tangle” fibers show, which was voted Best Gallery Show of 2007 in our recent Best of Savannah Readers Poll.
