The Westin Savannah Harbor announces that Steve Black is their new Executive Chef.
Chef Black will oversee the operation and culinary direction for Aqua Star Seafood Kitchen, Midnight Sun Bourbon & Craft Lounge, Escape Pool Bar & Grill, Champions Grill, and in-room dining.
Chef Black graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1986. In 1990, Chef Black traveled abroad to Strasbourg, France, where he had the opportunity to work with 3-Star Michelin Chefs Antoine Westermann, Emile Jung, Michel Husser & Fernand Mischler.
During his culinary career, Chef Black has been recognized as one of the leading chefs in San Diego. In 2002, he received the Gold Medallion Award as Chef of the Year from the California Restaurant Association. At the 2008 Gold Key Awards, he was nominated for the Food & Beverage Person of the Year by the San Diego Hotel & Motel Association.
Westin General Manager Mark Spadoni said, “The Resort found the perfect candidate to champion the city’s finest seafood restaurant and help lead one of Savannah’s largest Food and Beverage departments. We are entering a new era for the Resort and Steve’s contributions will, in large part, help define our success.”

Savannah's newest brewery, Service Brewing, holds a grand opening party this Thursday at the American Legion, 1108 Bull St. They'll be serving Ground Pounder Pale Ale, Compass Rose IPA, and its launch beer, called "SBC 0."
This is Tony's Stuff
Southside City Alderman Tony Thomas, Alderman has opened Stuff Store in the Savannah Mall. The store will feature antiques, collectibles and eclectic pieces.
“I wanted to offer Savannah a store that sold a variety of items, things ranging from Lenox china to unique one-of-a-kind products,” says Thomas.
A sister branch of the Stuff Store opened three months ago on White Bluff Road. The Savannah Mall location will be open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. Sunday. The grand opening and ribbon cutting will take place on August 4.
Juice of the melon
Last week's Vendor of the Week at the weekly Forsyth Farmers' Market was SAAFON, also known as Watermelon Juice.
SAAFON founder Cynthia Hayes is also one of the founders of the Forsyth Farmers’ Market.
SAAFON is a coalition of African American organic farmers across six southeastern states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Terry Hayes, Cynthia’s husband, uses watermelons grown by SAAFON farmers to create their delicious watermelon juice.
