Finally -- the holidays are over, the relatives are all gone and so are all the leftovers.

Now, how about a variety of some real food from some of Savannah’s finest restaurants - you knowm the ones you meant to hit during the season but never got the chance?

No worries, mate. The Tourism Leadership Council will hold its 5th annual Taste of Savannah event on Friday, January 21, at the Savannah International Trade Center from 7-10 p.m.

Presented by Savannah Electric and sponsored and supported by a host of others, over 25 restaurants and caterers will compete in a battle royal for the “best of” in a number of categories. The dishes will be rated by a panel of celebrity judges, including the editor of Southern Living magazine.

No doubt the competition in all the categories will be fierce, with bragging rights and new customers on the line.

And with dishes such as Mango-glazed Shrimp Sticks from Aqua Star to

Port-poached Pears stuffed with Marscapone Cheese Mousse from the Kehoe House to Chicken and Sausage Creole from Moon River Brewing Co., every dish is a potential winner.

The real winners will be the tasters in attendance; they’ll be treated to dishes from more restaurants than they could visit in a month of Sundays.

More to the point though, is that Savannahians love to party with a purpose. Proceeds will benefit the programs and activities of the T.L.C. such as the student scholarship fund and educational seminars for industry employees.

So come meet and greet about 900 or so of your best friends and neighbors at a great Savannah event for a great cause. And did you notice? Not one mention of turkey! w
