THE 2020 Savannah Stopover Music Festival lineup is off to a serious start. The festival announces that Americana powerhouse duo Shovels & Rope will headline the festival on March 6.

The band, on the heels of their latest release By Blood and their concert film Shovels & Rope: The Movie, will land in Savannah on their current world tour in support of the Dualtone Records release—which comes as the husband and wife duo experiences the continued success that started with their 2012 album O’ Be Joyful.

Cary Anne Hearst and Michael Trent, the multi-instrumentalists and songwriters behind Shovels & Rope, have garnered critical acclaim for their energetic mix of folk, alternative country, and Americana. The show will mark their first Savannah Stopover appearance.

Also announced in the first wave of bands is March 7 headliner CAAMP, who recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and landed on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. The Columbus, Ohio folk trio is currently on a nationwide tour that keeps them on the road until the end of December, where they’ll do a three-night stint in their hometown.

Another first-wave headliner is Durand Jones & the Indications, the Indiana-based soul band who take their cues from Sam Cooke but infuse funk in a way that’s uniquely theirs. They’ve garnered critical praise over the past couple of years, and most recently played such festivals as Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.

In addition to the buzz bands headlining the upcoming festival, Stopover also announced the addition of Athens indie darlings Elf Power to the lineup. The band, known for their association with the Elephant 6 collective of artists and musicians that also featured the legendary Neutral Milk Hotel, returns to Savannah after a decade. Their most recent album, Twitching In Time, was released in 2017.

The first wave announcement also revealed over a dozen touring bands participating in the festival, including London’s Leon of Athens, J. Roddy Walston’s newest project Palm Palm, and Sir Woman, the new project from Wild Child’s Kelsey Wilson.

The second wave of bands, which will feature locals as well as additional touring acts, will be announced early next year.
