JeWop

Bass and drums duo from Florida that features former Savannahian Adam Safer (ex-Clownknife), and plays raging, full-on confrontational “slap-core” (Like that? I just made it up!) that should suit Primus and Fugazi enthusiasts. Also appearing on this bill are the appetizingly-named Portland hardcore group Face Down in Shit, and the extreme metal of Gainesville, Florida’s Kumité. Sat., The Jinx.

Justice

This stripped-down offshoot of Tradewinds plays the oldies and Motown that group’s known for, but throws in more contemporary soul and funk as well. Thurs., 9:30 pm, Fusion/The Monkey Bar.

Claudia Nygaard

Seasoned Nashville acoustic singer/songwriter who finds inspiration in the splintery storytelling of tunesmiths like John Prine, Willie Nelson and Guy Clark. With a strong and sensual voice and a sophisticated lyrical sense (which often pokes fun at the gender gap), the Kerrville Folk Fest finalist’s been called “a female Will Rogers without the rope.” Sun., 7 pm, A.J.’s Dockside (Tybee Island).

Proof

Sonically ambitious post-punk which aims for inventive, shifting soundscapes that retain the capacity to rawk. Ideal for fans of Don Cabellero and Girls vs. Boys. Also appearing will be Y-O-U, which boasts a connection to the folks behind HomestarRunner.com. Fri., The Jinx.

Calvin Richardson

R & B sensation (on Capitol Records) who’s being viewed by some as a modern day Sam Cooke. His approach is defiantly old-school, and he seems destined for bigger and better things. Thurs., Aprés Nightclub (above Il Pasticcio).
