Boisterous, up-and-coming local “experimental rock” quartet whose pinched and angular guitar squeal and vintage keyboard sounds slightly recall early ‘80s Talking Heads, while their herky-jerky rhythms and obtuse, declamatory vocals find them rubbing style shoulders with Über-trendy crossover superstars Franz Ferdinand. A hard-touring New Jersey tunesmith who racks up accolades wherever he goes. With a vocal style that references John Mayer (thus Sting), Alex Chilton, and even Bono (at his most fragile) and a knack for penning dreamy ruminations on love, longing and salvation. Thurs., 10 pm, Fiddler’s Crab House.
Old-Time Jam Session
Led by local musicologist and multi-instrumentalist Joe Nelson, this regularly scheduled cross between an unplugged Open Hoot and a group lesson finds him offering pointers on the rhythmic nuances of early American country and blues, then encouraging any stringed-instrument players in the crowd (from fiddle to standup bass to guitar to ukulele) to join in on timeless tunes from that era. Mon., 7 pm, The Sentient Bean.

Terrific Savannah-based original rock band with a strong foundation built on reggae and hip-hop. Their infectious, organic groove music is catching on regionally. Sat., Locos Deli & Pub.

Excellent roadhouse rock, blues and soul combo that’s fluid enough to stretch out and jam if need be, yet still mindful of song structure. They mostly focus on the melodic and poetic originals of their leader, but drop a few greasy rave-up covers (Dylan, Stones, Little Feat) into their sets as well. Fri., JJ Cagney’s.
