SECURITY VIDEO that captured a burglary at the Bull Street CVS also shows that a number of people on foot and in cars passed by the pharmacy’s front door before, during and after the burglary.
The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are looking for the public’s assistance in helping identify the two men, who used a brick to break through the door. The burglary occurred July 14, just after midnight, in full view of passersby.
The men got in and out of the store very quickly. Investigators are asking that anyone who was passing by and saw the men or anyone who has information about them to contact the Metro Police Criminal Investigations Division at 651-6694 or call CrimeStoppers at 234-2020.
Both suspects are white males. The first suspect has a stocky build and was wearing a tan hat, black T-shirt, tan pants and carried a tan back pack. The second suspect is tall and slender, and was wearing a mask, black shirt and blue jeans and carrying a black back pack.
• An officer on routine patrol was driving down Drayton Street and observed a man riding his bicycle without a light.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and approached the cyclist, who reached into the pocket of his sweatshirt and removed a bike light from it. When the officer told the man why he was being stopped, the man replied that he had fallen from his bike and the light had broken off.
Just after the officer got the man’s information, a second officer arrived on the scene and said the man had a gun. When the officer asked the man where the gun was located, he said his right front pants pocket. A loaded Glock was found in his pocket, so the man was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
• Two men were charged with intent to distribute cocaine after a routine traffic stop. Two officers on patrol in the area of Henry and East Broad streets saw a car without a tag light and stopped it.
An odor of marijuana was coming from inside the car. When the driver was asked for his license, he said he didn’t have a license. When asked if the license was suspended, he replied that it was.
There were two passengers in the car, a man in the front and a woman in the back. The male passenger appeared to be nervous and was having a hard time sitting still.
At one point, he subtly removed his seat belt and seemed to be looking for an opportunity to run from the car. Because of his suspicious behavior, the driver was asked if he had a problem with police searching his car.
The driver gave his consent for the search. The driver had a suspended license and the passenger was wanted on a warrant for probation violation.
When the area where the passenger had been sitting was searched, a black purse was found in the passenger door side pocket. Inside the purse were five plastic baggies of white powder, believed to be cocaine, and one plastic baggie with a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana.
A black digital scale with cocaine residue also was found. Inside another pocket of the purse, an officer found two $100 bills and a $1 bill. The driver was arrested. The cocaine was measured at 22 grams.
• Someone stole a fast-food restaurant employee’s paycheck and fraudulently cashed it at a liquor store. The man told police he was out of town when the paychecks were released. When he got back, he asked the manager about his check and was told it couldn’t be found.
The manager called police, who told him the check had been cashed at a liquor store. The man said he signed a notarized affidavit for forged endorsement, which indicated the signature isn’t his.
The manager said when the checks were issued to the employees, the man’s check was left on the desk. He said the suspect has to be an employee of the restaurant because customers don’t have access to the office where the checks were kept.
The manager went to the liquor store to view a video surveillance tape, but was told the computer wasn’t operable.
