15-year-old shot, killed at Southside McDonald's

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at McDonald’s in the 13100 block of Abercorn Street on October 21.

"At about 10:50 p.m., officers responded to the area and found George Akins Jr., 15, suffering from life-threatening injuries. A second 15-year-old male was also injured in the shooting, and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Akins succumbed to his injuries at the scene," police report.

The circumstances leading up to this incident are still under investigation. At this time, the shooting does not appear random, police report.
