Armstrong State University will host the Armstrong Farmer’s Market in front of the Student Union,  at 11935 Abercorn St., on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This inaugural event, which is free and open to the public, is presented by Armstrong’s Recreation and Wellness Department and the university’s Office of Multicultural Affairs.

“We think it’s important for students to have access to healthy food and information about how to eat healthy and local,” said Megan Feasel, director of Armstrong’s Student Recreation Center. “We invite the public to attend and to support local farmers and vendors.”

Local vendors will include Alak Georgia Pecans, Andrea Morganson honey, Adams Farms vegetables and produce, Frali Gourmet pasta and jams, King of Pops popsicles and Sonja Rota breads and cheeses.

There will also be tables offering healthy recipes as well as information about Local Farm Bag, Step Up Savannah and the Forsyth Farmer’s Market. Oatland Island Wildlife Center will also have a booth featuring animals and educational information.

Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items for a canned food drive, which will be held on-site.
