Former police spokesman, SMN publisher enters City Council race

Former Savannah-Chatham Police spokesman and Savannah Morning News publisher Julian Miller announced Wednesday that he is seeking the Savannah City Council District 4 seat, currently held by Mary Ellen Sprague.

“The public overwhelmingly feels that politics get in the way of keeping our streets safe and my experiences as a city and police employee confirms that,” said Miller. “Nothing is more important to this community than public safety. I will fight for immediate, significant increases in resources to fight crime and protect this community. We certainly have other issues, but crime, by far is the most pressing.”

Miller served for five years as the Public Affairs director and spokesperson for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department before retiring from that position on Monday.

He retired as publisher of the Savannah Morning News in 2008. Before that he served as President of The Augusta Chronicle.
