Men arrested after shooting up apartment complex, ten cars

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police arrested Calvin Polite, 28, and Leroy Bryant, 32, "for an exchange of gunfire that damaged three units and 10 vehicles at an apartment complex on the 2800 block of Capital Street early Friday morning," police say.

Metro responded at about 2:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired between two groups of people, "with one group dispersing in an unknown direction and the other fleeing in a vehicle. No injuries were reported."

With Metro officers on scene, a car matching the suspect’s vehicle description passed the area before striking a nearby curb and deflating its tire. "The vehicle continued, then parked in front of a New Mexico Street residence. Officers found Polite and Bryant hiding on the property. Three firearms were located in the yard. Bullet holes also were observed on the car," police say.

Both men are charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property. Bryant also is charged with possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer. Polite had an additional felony warrant from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

This is an ongoing investigation. Detectives seek to identify other suspects involved in this case.
