Violent Crimes detectives are investigating two Thursday night shootings that left both victims with non-life-threatening injuries.

"At about 11:27 p.m. Metro responded to Memorial University Medical Center, where Eric Patterson, 32, had driven himself after being shot on the 400 block of Gould Street," police say
"Patterson reportedly observed a blue car following him for several blocks after leaving a gas station on the 100 block of DeRenne Avenue. Reportedly, Patterson exited his vehicle to confront the unidentified occupants of the blue car when the occupants opened fire, injuring Patterson," police say.

Also, at about 8:24 p.m. Metro responded to 40th and Habersham streets, where Kelvin Smith, 43, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Smith was transported by ambulance to MUMC for care.

"James Cail reportedly shot Smith during an altercation on 1800 block Jefferson Street, then called police," police say. "Smith’s mode of travel to 40th and Habersham from Jefferson Street remains under investigation. No arrests were made in this case."
