The City of Savannah says its collaborative internship program, Summer 500, has successfully matched 300 qualifying students with a variety of job positions across the Savannah area.
“We have worked tirelessly to create a program that supports and drives our youth to contribute in a way that not only strengthens our community’s future, but also gives them greater opportunity and the tools they will need as they enter the workforce,” said Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach.
“These students will be the key to our city’s future and the 300 students entering the program on May 31 have shown their ambition to be a part of this program in order to make that a reality.”
The program kicks off today, May 31, with an orientation day at Savannah State University. Students have been internally matched with businesses based on the interests the student indicated on their initial application.
The Summer 500 program includes students from private and public schools in Chatham County.
Participating organizations include the City of Savannah, Chatham County, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Savannah Economic Development Authority, Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Georgia, Georgia United Credit Union, Abshire Public Relations, Georgia Power, Gulfstream, Savannah State University, Savannah Technical College, Savannah Atlantic State University, Step Up Savannah, 100 Black Men, EnviroVac Holdings, LLC. and Xcel Strategies and Solutions.
