Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police arrested three males and confiscated "at least four semiautomatic weapons and drug sales paraphernalia after a traffic stop Wednesday night," police say.
Franklin Deangelo Alexander, 30, of 1803 East 62nd Street; Ja’vonte Montrez Hamilton, 22, and Dwayne Leonard Abney, 17, each were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearms in commission of a crime and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
Members of the SCMPD Immediate Response Team and Canine Unit stopped a silver Chevrolet Tahoe for a traffic offense at west 41st and Bulloch streets about 2:09 p.m. "The officers detected the scent of marijuana and obtained permission to search the car," police say.
In it they found three semiautomatic rifles – "including an AK47, a semiautomatic pistol, assorted ammunition, marijuana packaged in bags and scales."
The investigation into the activities of the three suspects continues.
