A man was arrested and taken to jail after he was interrupted while breaking into vehicles on Little Neck Road.

A 911 call was received by Metro Police at 10:10am on Jan. 5 about a man breaking into vehicles behind the Georgia Lottery building on Little Neck Road. As officers were responding to the scene, several bystanders approached the man as he was rummaging through items inside a car.

The man saw them coming and ran away, dropping items he'd taken from the vehicles. The bystanders continued to follow him as he ran into a residential neighborhood.

They stayed on the phone the entire time with police to provide updates of the suspect's location. As a result, Steven Carl Grissett, 52, of Savannah, was arrested by police in a backyard on Old Grove Point Road.

Grissett was charged with Entering an Auto, Obstruction by Resisting and Financial Transaction Card Theft. He was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center, where he is expected to be arraigned Jan. 6.

All items stolen from the cars were recovered and returned to their owners.
